Medical technology has advanced beyond recognition over the past 500 years. The lifespan today is far greater than it was at any point in history. You are less likely to catch certain diseases, and even if you were to catch them you would have a much greater chance of survival. Many diseases such as smallpox, and dysentery were rampant in history, but are virtually unheard of now. From a medical standpoint you are better off living today than at any other time period. Technology has been developed over the centuries that helps you to live longer. More things will be developed in the future that will eradicate more diseases and help life expectancy rise. While there are still many more diseases that we could stop, we have come a long way.
